Madrid Xanadu
Madrid Xanadú is a large shopping mall and entertainment center in Arroyomolinos, Madrid, Spain. Constructed next to the Autovía de Extremadura highway, the mall is one of Europe’s largest, with over 222 shops, eateries, and a 15-screen Cinesa Movie Theater.
The Project
The Mills Corporation wished to develop and establish their flagship European centre as a leisure/retail destination, incorporating major leisure attractions, food & beverage and show casing retail brands.
Built in an out of town location, Xanadu had to attract brands and customers. The Mills wanted to establish a full on-site operations and leasing team and create a destination centre.
The results
Anchored by a “real snow” ski slope, indoor go-karting and an El Corte Inglese department store. The operations team of 25 staff managed an NOI which was grown to over €20Mn p.a., a centre that attracted over 15Mn visitors p.a., and realised a profit in excess of €200Mn when sold.
